How Much Does it Cost to Have a Baby

When a couple is considering whether or not they will be having any children, one of the main questions that has to be answered, is how much does it cost to have a baby. The cost to have kids is fairly high, therefore if you plan on having one, or if you plan on having several, there must be a common agreement between the couple, so that they can start preparing and planning well in advance, as it is a fairly high cost which they will incur. Both parties have to agree to want children, and must be fully aware as to what it is going to cost them to care for, take care of, and properly be able to nurture the child, if this is something that both of the partners truly want to do together.

Preparing for the child is the first expense which has to be considered by the couple, as they are considering whether or not to have a child. This is going to start with buying food, diapers, the nursery furniture, clothing, and all other items from strollers, diaper bags, and everything else which is needed, in order for them to be able to care for the children, and properly take care of them, when they are at home, on the road, and anywhere in between. Just here, with the first child, parents can expect to spend at a very minimum of 5000 dollars in cost; when they have other children, hand me downs will make things a little cheaper, but just for starters, it is fairly expensive when buying these items.

As far as the doctor and hospital visits, this is also a cost which the couple is going to have to keep in mind, if they are planning on having any children together. Whether or not they have insurance, if that policy covers the birth and the doctor visits, whether or not they will be taking any medication, coming in for weekly doctor visits as they move along in the pregnancy, and all other costs which will incur, have to be considered as well. The mother will be required to go in and see her doctor at least once a month early on, and as the pregnancy progresses, it is likely that she will be required to go in more frequently, in order to ensure that everything is going as is planned.

The actual birth and delivery are also costs which have to be considered, and will cost the couple a fairly high amount, even if they do have an insurance policy which covers the room charge. Just the doctors, the drugs and medication, having nurses on staff around the clock, the actual room as well as a distinct delivery room, whether to get a private or a joined room, and many other questions have to be asked when trying to cut on the costs which will be spent in a hospital, on the day of the actual birth and delivery. So, as parents, you must set aside a budget to consider this cost as well, since it is also likely to run at the minimum a couple thousand dollars, in most cases more than this.

Starting out with school is also another cost that has to be thought through by the couple, when they are deciding whether or not they will be having any children, as well as the number of children they decide to have together. Deciding if you will go with private or public school, when to start day care, lower level schools, and so forth, all are going to cost money, on a daily basis, for the parents to leave their child with someone else who will be taking care of, as well as teaching the child. Therefore, the couple must consider this, and they have to determine whether or not they will be placing them with private institutions, or with a public style day care when the time comes to decide this.

If a parent is off work, in order to take care of the child after birth, or if both of them are taking leave for a period of time, then this will be costing them as far as unearned salary (after the medical leave period has expired, and they are still being paid), which also has to be factored in to having a child. So, deciding which parent will return to work, how long they can stay out of work, whether or not extra shifts will have to be picked up, whether you need additional help, and other questions all have to be answered. The couple has to decide these thing well in advance, in order to ensure they will be able to survive, for the time period that one of them is out of work and caring for the child.

The continuing costs of care must also be taken in to account, when determining how much it will cost for the couple to decide if they will have any children. From buying food, costs of school as they get older, costs of new clothing, new furniture, setting aside money for the child to potentially go to college when the time comes, and all other expenses that will be incurred on a daily basis, also have to be added in. There are incurring costs, which will never stop coming in, as long as you have to care for, and take care of those children, due to the fact that they are still minors, and require the care of the parents, due to the fact that they are under the age of 18.

When you want to know how much does it cost to have a baby, the answer is very difficult to be answered, due to the fact that the costs you will be incurring never seem to stop coming in. From the early prep costs just to get the home ready, to the prices you will pay to actually have the children, to all other prices which are going to continue being incurred, so long as they are living under your roof. So, when couples are discussing the possibility of having a child, or more than one, they must also consider the financial implications, and they have to be 100 % sure that they will be able to handle the costs which will be brought in, as they do decide to have children.
